For over half a year I’ve been trying to pursue writing as a creative endeavor. You all know I currently work in content production and search engine optimization. It’s a fun job that I often explain to people as the crossroads of data analysis and creativity. Yes SEO is a very numbers based field, but writing content (at it’s core) is a very creative endeavor.

I’ve written about a lot of topics over the last year and a half of working this job. This includes

  • Roofing

  • Home renovation

  • Mental health

  • Career development

  • Small business M&A

All of these topics are interesting to me enough, but they’re not what I actually want to spend my time thinking and writing about.

Reflecting on this, I remember just last week writing an article about How to Stop Feeling Like a Failure. Now, I don’t think this topic isn’t important, but it was such a slog. I didn’t want to write about tips and steps people could take to stop feeling like a failure.

Why am I saying this?

I view writing, whether it be for an SEO campaign or not, as a creative endeavor. That means I get paid for my creativity. However, I don’t always feel a great sense of creativity while writing a blog from a stack of keywords.

My point in writing this is to explain this concept;

Doing something I enjoy creative will make working easier.

There’s this idea in professional development that workplace education motivates employees. This is for a lot of reasons including upward mobility. There’s also a sense in which engaging with work as a way to develop personally and professionally is helpful.

All that to say, I feel like I’m in a creative rut. I’m not motivated while writing copy or articles right now, and I want to change that. So, I’m starting this little newsletter to hopefully give myself an outlet for developing my writing creatively.

What to Expect From This

This will likely not be a weekly letter but I’m not opposed to it.

Some letters will include recommendations or links to things I find interesting.

If you don’t want to get these occasional newsletters you can unsubscribe - I won’t be offended.

Anyway, that’s it for today. I’ll leave you with two more things.
