I spent the weekend after Thanksgiving in Pasadena with my friends from college. A friend of ours was getting married so we split an Airbnb, brought our favorite board games, and prepared for a great weekend away.

And it was an amazing weekend!

The Wedding

The only reason this trip could happen was because our friend was getting married! They’re both Korean and besides two other people, we were the only white people in attendance.

The ceremony was great, and the reception was awesome! I popped open the Champagne for my table and it blew up all over the floor. I was very embarrassed and had to clean up while the speeches were happening (our table was right next to the dance floor).

I danced so hard that my legs started to cramp. It was a great wedding!

Down Time

When we were at the Airbnb we spent our time playing board games. We played:

  • Carcassonne

  • Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate

  • Here to Slay

  • Vale of Eternity

  • Root

Everyone was down to play games together and no one needed convincing. I found that refreshing and we had such a good time together!

Smorgasburg

The day after the wedding we played Mario Party and went to Smorgasburg.

If you don’t know anything about Smorgasburg, it’s a weekly food market in DTLA that has some of the best street food you can buy. Zelphia and I got to eat some food that we literally can not get unless we drove for like 4 hours or something.

Our orders included:

  • Korean Corndogs

  • Red Bean Croissant

  • Mushroom Bao

  • Thai ice cream

  • Coffee (obviously)

It’s so hard to find good food here in Prescott, so I was over the moon to eat food like this!

I Miss My Friends

I’m not going to lie, I think about my college friends almost daily. They were the people that were with me when I truly became myself. When I’m around them I feel free to be my regular self. They’re goofy, fun, nerdy, down to learn a complex game, and they live so far away.

I really felt like the entire weekend I was able to be myself. I didn’t have to tiptoe around my weirdness or hide my enjoyment of all things games.

I haven’t found a group of friends who have filled the void they left, but I don’t know if I have to. We text frequently and stay up to date on what’s happening in each other’s lives, but man, there’s nothing quite like being in the same room.

Till next time,Bababooey
