Christmas is a very important time of year for me. It’s when my family and I get to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. We do this by getting gifts for one another. And while it can all seem very consumerist, there is much love and intention behind each one.
Many of the gifts that are passed out have some instructions with them:
Use this for a stay-at-home date night
I made this so you can hide candy in your bed
I got you earplugs and a book so you can read in near silence while your boys are going wild in the other room
In recent years, we’ve streamlined Christmas a bit by doing a Secret Santa (excluding the grandparents who go crazy with giving gifts). Instead of stressing about what to get everyone in the family, everyone has 1 sibling or in-law and 1 nibling to get a gift for. It takes away much of the financial stress and helps people get something really special for their randomly selected family member.
As a boardgame lover, I frequently get gifted board games from my wishlist. I have to admit, I often feel a twinge of regret when I get a game I ask for. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to have the game and am thankful someone got it for me, but the reality of the physical object often sets in.
Board games are physical things that take up space, and we don’t have a lot of extra space.
I got two games this year for Christmas, and one of them is the perfect size.
I Love The Size of Sail

I was shocked when I opened the present from my brother-in-law. This game had been on my wishlist for a while, and the size of it was a surprise for me. I expected it to be the size of Parks or a similar 10×10-inch game.
I was shocked to see that Sail is a 4 3/4” x 4 3/4” x 2” box.
Even last night I was reorganizing our boardgame chests (yeah, we use old wooden chests to store our games, it’s not ideal, but it works), and it was so easy to find this little friend a little spot.
We’ve now played the game 1 time, and I can say that the size of the game works perfectly. Easy to take out, easy to learn, and it doesn’t take up much space on the table!
I’m in love with the size of this thing, and its size alone is enough to make me reach for it when we have some spare time to play a game.
