The last few weeks have been busy. At the time of this publishing, we’re only 5 days away from signing the papers and owning a house. We’ve been packing, making the proper phone calls, and keeping our necks above the water.
One thing I’ve learned during these packing times is the importance of boxes—good boxes.

The last time we moved we moved in piecemeal. We were only moving a couple minutes away so every day for about a week we were moving things from our apartment to our current spot. ← This is a BAD plan.
I got quickly burned out from carrying poorly packed amazon boxes too and from our place. This move ended with me honestly breaking down in front of my wife.
When we started to get confirmation that our offer was being accepted—I started to have flashbacks. Stuffing the car full with even more loose stuff, driving five minutes, and dumping it onto the living room floor for a week is not something I ever want to do again.
This time… things were going to be different.
As soon as we started packing I went to Walmart and picked up almost 75 dollars worth of boxes. We would need more, but for now it was enough. I got a couple large, a little bit more medium, and a TON of small boxes.
We always start packing with the books and I was amazed at how easy the process was compared to our previous moves. Instead of piling books into mismatched size boxes that were half-cat scratched, we had uniform sizes that made the packing easier to plan.
Small boxes are a must for books—things get too heavy too quick. But even then, they worked perfectly for those little things like collectibles, memorabilia, or those little items that float around your dresser.
It’s very satisfying to see a stack of identical boxes being piled up just waiting for the dolly.
